Size:
Wingspan is 1 1/2 - 2 1/8 inches.

Similar Species:

Delaware
Skipper
Byssus Skipper

Habitat:
Brackish rivers, tidal marshes along the coast and abandoned rice paddies. Prefers long grasses, morning glories and Pickerelweed.

Range/Abundance:
Very rare along the Atlantic coast as habitat is declining.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from early June until early September in two broods with a gap between. More data is needed.

Larval Host Plants:
Inter tidal Cordgrass, Spartina cynosuroides, wild rice, Zizania aquatica and Zizaniopsis miliacea

Comments:
The skipper species is nearly gone from the region. Probably the best way to find this wetland species would be from a canoe.

A few years back, it could be found at Eagle Island near Wilmington, NC, but development at the site has wasted away the habitat there entirely.
