Wingspan is 1 - 1 3/8 inches.

Habitat:
Wet meadows, marshes, savannas, pocosins, swamps and damp power line clearings.

Range/Abundance:
Common to uncommon in the lower coastal plain. Uncommon to rare in the piedmont and sandhills. Rare in the mountains.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from late May until late September in two broods with gaps between broods. These are more common in late summer and fall.

Larval Host Plants:
Grasses including Big Bluestem Andropogon gerardi, Switchgrass Panicum virgatum, and Wooly Beard Grass Erianthus divaricatus

Comments:
It is always a pleasant surprise to find this little bright orange skipper. When visiting in New York in July of 2003, I found Delaware Skippers to be very common in NY. Further south you might only see a handful a day at best.
