Size:
Wingspan is 1 - 1 1/8 inches.

Similar Species:

Least Skipper
Delaware Skipper

Habitat:
Native grassy pastures and open fields with tall grasses.

Range/Abundance:
Uncommon to abundant in the mountains of WV and VA. Rare in the mountains of NC and SC.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid June until mid July in a single brood.

Larval Host Plants:
Grasses including Timothy Phleum pratense

Comments:
This species was introduced in Ontario in 1910 and it is expanding southward increasingly. They have a weak flight similar to the Least Skipper but it is much larger. Can be found in large numbers at times.
