Wingspan is 3/4 - 1 inch.

Similar Species:

Cassius Blue

Eastern-Tailed Blue

Habitat:
Open areas, power line cuts, disturbed areas and grassy fields in coastal areas in our region.

Range/Abundance:
Stray or accidental in the southern coastal areas of NC and SC. No records for VA or WV.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from late summer or fall in the region.

Larval Host Plants:
A wide variety of legumes.

Comments:
The flight is very similar to that of the Eastern-Tailed Blue so it could easily be overlooked.

The top photo was taken at Fort Johnson in Charleston Co., SC on October 09, 1999. The center photo was taken at Bahia Honda State Park in Monroe Co., FL on January 24, 2002. The bottom photo was taken in the Florida Everglades in December of 1998.
