Size:
Wingspan is 1 1/2 - 2 inches.

Similar Species:

Clouded Sulphur
Orange Sulphur

Habitat:
Boggy and scrubby areas, rocky balds and barrens.

Range/Abundance:
Found at higher elevations like Spruce Knob and Dolly Sods in WV and in northwestern VA in isolated populations. Not recorded in NC or SC.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid June until late August in a single brood.

Larval Host Plants:
Blueberries primarily Lowbush Blueberry Vaccinium angustifolium.

Comments:
Fresh Clouded Sulphur can have mild pink fringes and cause confusion with Pink-edged Sulphur. Remember to look for the single white spot in the center of the hindwing, the very pink head and wing fringes. Also it is a much weaker flier than the other similar sulphurs.
