Fiery Skipper

Habitat:
Wet areas near cane, wet power line clearings, roadsides with seepage, ditches and pocosins.

Range/Abundance:
Uncommon to local in the coastal plain. Rare in the piedmont portion of its range.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from early April until late September in three broods with gaps between broods.

Larval Host Plants:
Switch Cane Arundinaria tecta

Comments:
This tiny skipper could be easily overlooked. It perches on mud and sand along roads and blends in very well.

Can be mistaken for the more common Fiery Skipper; look for the reddish spots on the abdomen to tell them apart.
