Wingspan is 1 3/8 - 1 3/4 inches.

Similar Species:

Two-spotted Skipper
Dion Skipper

Habitat:
Florida type habitats including marshy areas near ponds, swamps and canals.

Range/Abundance:
Extremely rare and only found in NC and SC in the region. Not recorded in VA or WV.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid August until mid September. Reports of a slight brood in late May. More data is needed.

Larval Host Plants:
Unknown.

Comments:
Very rare, you would need to conduct a concentrated search to find this skipper. The Dare Bombing Range is the only currently known population in the region.

It is truly a reclusive skipper and hard to find. I have searched in the bombing range many times, even when others had just seen one, and missed finding it at all.
