Wingspan is 1 1/8 - 1 1/2 inches.

Similar Species:

Indian Skipper
Peck's Skipper


Habitat:
Moist meadows, marshes, stream sides and woodland edges.

Range/Abundance:
Common in the mountains of WV and uncommon to rare in the mountains of VA. Not recorded in NC or SC.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from late May until late July in a single brood.

Larval Host Plants:
Bluegrasses Poa sp.

Comments:
This species can be very common during the flight period. The best places to find Long Dash are Spruce Knob and Dolly Sods in the WV mountains.
