Confused Cloudywing

Size:
Wingspan is 1 1/2 - 1 7/8 inches.
Similar Species:
Southern Cloudywing
Northern Cloudywing
Habitat:
Dry open habitats near pine woods, power line clearings and roadsides.
Range/Abundance:
Uncommon in the sandhills
and southern coastal plain, rare in the piedmont and mountains.
Flight Period:
Adults fly from early April until mid August in two broods with a gap
between broods.
Larval Host Plants:
Most likely Bush clover Lespedeza in the pea family Fabaceae
Comments:
It is just about impossible to tell from Southern
Cloudywing without capture because of the variability of this species,
this is why it’s called “confused”.

confused
out in the field.
