Size:
Wingspan is 1 1/2 - 1 7/8 inches.

Similar Species:

Southern Cloudywing
Northern Cloudywing

Habitat:
Dry open habitats near pine woods, power line clearings and roadsides.

Range/Abundance:
Uncommon in the sandhills and southern coastal plain, rare in the piedmont and mountains.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from early April until mid August in two broods with a gap between broods.

Larval Host Plants:
Most likely Bush clover Lespedeza in the pea family Fabaceae

Comments:
It is just about impossible to tell from Southern Cloudywing without capture because of the variability of this species, this is why it’s called “confused”.

Be sure to remember the identification marks or you’re sure to be confused
out in the field.
