Gorgone Checkerspot (very rare)

Habitat:
Dry rocky hillsides and pastures in the western mountains of NC and northern mountains of VA.

Range/Abundance:
Rare in the region, found in western mountains of NC and northern mountains of VA. WV has historical records dating back over 100 years ago and no recent records.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid May until early July in a single brood.

Larval Host Plants:
Wavy-leaved Aster Aster undulatus

Comments:
Unless you conduct a concentrated effort to find this rare species at the right time of year you likely wouldn't find it.
