Habitat:
Rich woods, streams, shady roads and cove forests.
Range/Abundance:
Found only in the
mountains in rich woods and cove forests.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid May until late June in a single brood.
Larval Host Plants:
Black Cohosh Cimicifuga
racemosa
Comments:
Appalachian Azure is known to be the largest of all the azures.
It’s very difficult to tell apart from large Summer
Azures unless the host plant Black Cohosh is nearby.
Given these azures were quarter-sized and much larger than the other
fresh
azures puddling in the sand along the creek, these “should”
be Appalachian
Azures.
