Size:
Wingspan is 2 5/8 - 3 1/8 inches.

Similar Species:

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail


Habitat:
Forest edges at high elevations in the region.

Range/Abundance:
Rare as it is a northern species and it is found only in WV in the region.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from May until mid July in single brood.

Larval Host Plants:
Birch Betula, aspen Populus, and black cherry Prunus

Comments:
Not much is known about this species of swallowtail in the region. The only recent record I know of, was found at Spruce Knob in WV.

It is difficult to tell apart from the common Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the nearly identical larger Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail.
