Wingspan is 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 inches.

Similar Species:

Dion Skipper

Habitat:
Fresh water or slightly brackish wetlands or marshes along the edges of woods with tupelos.

Range/Abundance:
Rare to uncommon in the tidewater portion of the coastal plain.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid June until mid September in two broods with a slight gap between broods.

Larval Host Plants:
Sedges including Hairy Sedge Carex lacustris and Shoreline Sedge Carex hyalinolepis

Comments:
A concentrated search is required to find this species. When looking for this species, you are sure to end up becoming food for the swarms of mosquitoes in the wetlands where it is usually found.
