Similar Species:
Broad-winged Skipper
Habitat:
Wetlands, swamps, savannas, wet roadsides and ditches, woodland borders
and the edges of marshes. Tends to like partly shady places.
Range/Abundance:
Uncommon to locally common in the
coastal plain and sandhills. Rare in the piedmont. Not recorded in WV.
Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid May until mid October in two broods with a gap between
broods.
Larval Host Plants:
Likely Cane Arundinaria species.
Comments:
Males are a bright rusty-orange and they fade to a yellowish-orange. Females
are orange-brown turning to brown-orange when faded.
