Wingspan is 1 3/8 - 1 5/8 inches.

Similar Species:

Sachem (female)
Crossline Skipper

Habitat:
Sunny open longleaf pine stands and broomsedge fields. Frequently burned areas where the grass is not mowed is a favorable habitat.

Range/Abundance:
Rare in very isolated colonies in the proper habitat.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from early April until early October in two broods. The first brood is very minor and rarely recorded.

Larval Host Plants:
Grasses including Switchgrass Panicum virgatum and Fall Witchgrass Leptoloma cognatum

Comments:
Very hard to find. Your best bet to find it is in the Sandhills Gamelands. The rare Meske's Skipper should also be found in the same habitat
