Wingspan is 2- 2 3/4 inches.

Similar Species:

None in the region.

Habitat:
Coastal mangroves, hardwood hammocks and open areas near mangroves.

Range/Abundance:
Stray from FL, with one record in SC.

Flight Period:
Adults fly all year in FL. Strays into the region would be expected in late summer or fall.

Larval Host Plants:
Red Mangrove Rhizophora mangle

Comments:
This species was found in southern SC about 700+ miles away from the nearest mangrove. It likely was a hitchhiker or blown in on a storm.

All photos were taken in southern FL during December of 1998.
