Size:
Wingspan is 1 - 1 1/4 inches.

Similar Species:

White M Hairstreak


Habitat:
Dry woodland edges, scrub oak forests, shale barrens and power line cuts.

Range/Abundance:
Rare to uncommon in the coastal plain and the piedmont. Also rare in northeastern WV and in the VA mountains.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid May until mid June in a single brood.

Larval Host Plants:
White Oak, Quercus alba, Black Oak, Q. velutina, Post Oak Q. stellata and Red Oak, Q. Rubra.

Comments:
This single-brooded hairstreak is hard to find. I have seen a handful of this species and have yet to see a fresh one.
