Size:
Wingspan is 1 3/4 - 2 1/2 inches.

Similar Species:

American Lady (in flight)

Habitat:
Disturbed fields, meadows, pastures, roadsides, cultivated areas, gardens, woodland edges and dunes.

Range/Abundance:
Very common in the coastal plain and piedmont. Uncommon in the mountains.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid April until December in three to four broods.

Larval Host Plants:
Passion vines Passiflora spp. and Viola spp. Maypop Passiflora incarnata

Comments:
The region's most widespread fritillary, it’s often seen by the hundreds in fields and meadows.
