Queen (coastal or stray inland)
Monarch

Adults fly from late summer until fall in the region. Since there is only one record in the region data is not available.

Comments:
There is only one record in the region for this very rare stray. Derb Carter photographed one on July 18, 1998 at Fort Fisher in New Hanover Co., NC.

Very hard to distinguish from the Queen. Close study is needed or a photograph to tell these species apart.

The top photo was taken by Tim Adams in Florida. The center and bottom photos were taken in Hidalgo Co., TX during the first week of December 2004.
