Size:
Wingspan is 1 3/8 - 1 5/8 inches.

Similar Species:

Carolina Satyr (in flight)

Habitat:
Hardwood forests along trails or roads in partial shade. Sometimes found in grassy pinewoods.

Range/Abundance:
Common in the piedmont uncommon in the coastal plain and rare in the mountains.

Flight Period:
Adults fly from late March until early October in three broods with gaps between broods.

Larval Host Plants:
Grasses including Bermuda Grass Cynodon dactylon.

Comments:
Slightly larger and always found in smaller numbers than the Carolina Satyr. This species can be found bouncing along roadsides and trails along with Carolina Satyrs. Both species are difficult to tell apart until they land and provide a better look.
