Similar Species:
None in the region.
Habitat:
Open area, fields, meadows, moist grasslands at higher elevations.
Range/Abundance:
Locally common at only one location
Spruce Knob Lake in WV. This colony was planted there several years back.
Flight Period:
Adults fly from mid June until early August in a single brood. A second
brood might be possible.
Larval Host Plants:
Grasses and rushes.
Comments:
This species has colonized in the northeastern US since the 1960 and is
moving southward.
Common Ringlets can be found in large numbers. When I found the colony
at Spruce Knob Lake, I expected to find a handful at best, not over a
thousand of them!
